Wild Pansy Herb (lat. Viola Tricolor L.) - known as tricolor violet -  grows in fields and wastelands. Flowers are used to flavor wines, liqueurs, syrups and oils. They are a common ingredient in perfumes. Young leaves and flower buds are added to salads and gourmet soups. Above all, however, both violet flowers and leaves are used in the production of medicinal preparations and care cosmetics. They contain compounds highly valued in medicine and cosmetology, some quite rare, including: bioflavonoids (rutoside and quercetin, hesperidin), large amounts of mucus, mineral salts and tannins, salicylic acid and methyl salicylate, vitamin C, organic acids, carotenoids (zeaxanthin and violaxanthin), umbeliferon (hydroxycoumarin), triterpene saponins, sugars, small amounts of essential oil.

Dosage and how to use

Infusion

Pour 1 tablespoon of dried herb with a glass of boiling water. Let stand covered for 15 minutes. Drain. Drink ½ cup 3 times a day in case of catarrh of the upper respiratory tract, and in skin diseases such as rashes, itching, eczema, and impetigo. The infusion can be used externally in light seborrheic skin diseases, as well as in adolescent eczema in the form of compresses and baths.

Decoction

Pour 2 tablespoons of dried herb with 2 cups of lukewarm water. Boil and cook, covered for 5 minutes. Set aside for 15 minutes. Drain. Drink 2–3 times a day for 0.5–1 glasses as a diuretic and metabolism regulator, as well as in skin diseases and as an aid in colds, flu and fever.

Externally, the decoction prepared in this way is sometimes used for gargling, compresses and baths for various skin rashes.

Contraindications 

Despite its many health-promoting properties, there are contraindications to its use. It is not recommended for patients with diseases such as: multithrombocytopenia, post-traumatic thrombosis and advanced atherosclerosis in old age.
