Stinging Nettle Root (lat. Urtica Dioica L.) is not just a weed. In the countryside, it has been treated with respect for centuries due to its healing properties and nutritional value. Nettle contains many valuable vitamins, microelements and mineral salts that are helpful, among others, in the treatment of kidney stones and arthritis. For medicinal purposes, leaves collected before flowering (Urticae folium) and roots - dug in autumn or early spring (Urticae radix), as well as the whole herb (Urticae herba) are used.

Dosage and how to use

Root infusion 

Pour a teaspoon of dried herb with a glass of boiling water and let it brew for about 15 minutes, then strain.

Root decoction 

Take 2 teaspoons of roots, then pour with a glass of cold water and cook, covered, for about 5 minutes, drain.

Root macerate 

Pour a glass of dried herb with 3 cups of cool water and set aside for 8 hours, then drain. Store in a refrigerator.

Root tincture 

Take 100g of the dried roots place it in a large jar. Add 0.5l of alcohol (70%), add 50g of sugar and mix well. Keep tightly closed in a dark place, and after two weeks, strain and pour into a dark glass bottle.

Contraindications 

Nettle tea cannot be drunk too much. Four cups a day is the maximum dose that ensures the beneficial effects of this plant and prevents, for example, the flushing of mineral salts from the body. It can not be used by people with chronic kidney diseases without consulting a doctor, as well as people after surgery. Also when excess iron is detected in the body because the nettle increases iron levels. Nettle also has blood sugar lowering properties, so people with diabetes cannot use it without consulting a doctor.
