Dosage and how to use

Dried marshmallow root and leaves are perfect for preparing a herbal infusion that can be used both for drinking and as compresses.

To prepare an infusion of marshmallow, put 1 tablespoon of dried marshmallow root in a pot and pour cool water over it.

Allow it to cool for about an hour, then boil it, drain it and after a little cooling, drink it slowly or make a compress. Prepare a decoction of the leaves, with the difference that you do not boil them, but pour them over with cooled water and drink it after about an hour.

Marshmallow decoction is recommended to drink one glass 2-3 times a day. The use of marshmallow during the disease will help us get rid of a sore throat faster, alleviate the course of angina, reduce cough and facilitate expectoration of secretions in the bronchi.

With its help, we will also take care of the proper functioning of the digestive system and eliminate constipation. Used in the form of compresses, in turn, it will help in the treatment of skin inflammations, moisturize and improve its appearance.

Side effects

In most healthy adults, moderate doses of marshmallow root are well tolerated and do not cause adverse reactions. However, some people may get stomach upset and dizziness.

Therefore, the recommendation is to start with a low dose until you reach the dose suggested by your doctor or supplement manufacturer.

According to information from the American corporation WebMD, it can cause low blood sugar in some people. In addition, due to the lack of evidence of its safety and efficacy, it should be avoided in the following cases:

  • Pregnancy and lactation;
  • Hemorrhagic disorders;
  • Diabetes;
  • Before and after surgery;
  • In general, it can interact with lithium, diabetes medications, and medications taken by mouth. Therefore, it is best to consult a doctor before consumption.

Contraindications

Marshmallow is a safe plant, so it can usually be given to older children. However, in the case of the youngest, under 3 years of age, consultation with a doctor is necessary before using marshmallow.

Contraindications to taking marshmallow are also pregnancy and the period of breastfeeding. Marshmallow in pregnancy, like any other drug, should be taken only after consulting a doctor. Particular care should be taken when using marshmallow in the case of allergy sufferers.
