Cleavers Herb (lat. Galium Aparine) is a common plant that can be found in virtually every corner of the world, mainly in the temperate climate zone.
It was known and valued already in antiquity, supporting in the feeling of strong exhaustion and weakness of the body, while in folk medicine it was used mainly to treat wounds, burns and all kinds of skin ailments. Among farmers and gardeners, is considered a difficult weed to eradicate, but for those interested in natural methods of treatment, it is a valuable herb and panacea for many ailments.

Powdered herb
Dried cleavers herb does not need to be specially prepared. Dried herb from the plant is best suited for external use – for use in the case of wounds, burns or ulcers. It is enough to cover the sick part of the body with herb and leave it (the longer the better). In order for the dried Cleavers herb to stick better to the skin (so it work better), you can mix it with an oily base, e.g. petroleum jelly, and only then apply it to the body.
Brew
Recommended especially in general exhaustion of the body – it helps to regenerate strength and gives energy to act in moments of fatigue and weakness.
Use 2 heaped tablespoons of dried herb, pour 1 cup (approx. 200 ml) of boiling water and leave to infuse (covered). After 20-30 minutes, it is necessary to strain and if the drink has cooled, then it is ready to drink. Drink a minimum of 3 times a day for half a glass of liquid.
Decoction
Cleavers herb in the form of a decoction is used in the treatment of various types of skin ailments. You can use it as a herbal healing bath infusion or apply a cotton pad or gauze pad soaked in it to a sick place.
To make a decoction, you need to pour 2 teaspoons of herb into a pot, pour 1 cup of water, put on a burner and bring to a boil. Cook the mixture over low heat for about 6-8 minutes, then leave from the heat and leave for about 5 minutes under cover. The decoction can be used depending on the needs – externally or drink.
Cleavers Herb for bathing
Adding it to the bath is recommended primarily for people who are struggling with skin problems such as psoriasis, eczema, sweating or seborrhea. Bathing with the herb of this plant should speed up healing and relieve persistent symptoms with difficult to heal wounds, ulcers, skin damage and cuts.
The optimal amount of herb to add to the bath for best results is 50 g of dried herb per 1 liter of boiling water. Pour boiling water over the herb and leave to infuse for about 15 minutes or instead cook for a few minutes over low heat. After draining, add the prepared infusion or decoction to the bath.
Hair rinse
Another way to prepare the Cleavers herb it’s a hair rinse. It can be used in the case of dandruff, because it helps to deal with it effectively. In addition, it nourishes the hair and makes it pleasantly soft and smooth to the touch. The rinse from the herb can also be used to make compresses on problem areas on the skin.
To prepare the hair rinse will need 2 tablespoons of the herb . Pour 3/4 cup of boiling water (about 150 ml) and leave to infuse for about 15 minutes, previously covering the dish. After cooling, it can be used on it’s own way.
