Dosage and how to use

Brew:

Pour a tablespoon of it with a glass of boiling water and let it brew for about 10-15 minutes.

Poultice for sore spots:

Two handfuls of herb should be placed in a large sieve and hung over boiling water - steam them. Then wrap the hot and soft herb in a linen cloth, put it (warm) on the affected area and leave it for a few hours overnight.

Tincture

About 10g of herb should be poured with 50g of rye and left for about 14 days in the sun or in a warm place. During storage, the tincture should be shaken daily.

Bath

Pour about 100g of herb overnight with cold water, then heat to a boil the next day and add to the water while bathing. Such a rinse should last about 20 minutes. It is best not to wipe the body but wrap yourself in a bathrobe and lie in bed for about an hour.

Side effects

When deciding on a long-term treatment with horsetail, we must remember that it flushes vitamin B1 out of the body - in fact, it is a colloquial term for the effects of horsetail in the context of this vitamin. Horsetail, despite its healing properties, also has a disadvantage, namely it has anti-vitamin B1, i.e. a compound that interferes with its absorption in the body. Therefore, it is absolutely necessary to take vitamin B1, and during the treatment with horsetail, it is recommended to follow a diet rich in vitamin B1 sources, such as whole grains, yeast, pods, wheat germ and nuts. In addition, in diseases of the urinary tract, along with the use of horsetail herbal infusion, a plentiful fluid intake should be ensured, as it has a diuretic effect. In addition, the basic principles of herbal use should be kept in mind to avoid the side effects of horsetail. Products containing field horsetail should be used in accordance with the manufacturer's requirements and the doctor's guidelines. Do not use after the expiry date. Keep out of the reach and sight of children, at an appropriate temperature and in a tightly closed container.

Contraindications

Despite the invaluable properties of the horsetail, you also need to be careful about its effects in certain situations, as it may be unfavorable for some people. Contraindications to the use of horsetail include, in particular, such situations as:

  • Gout;
  • Nephritis;
  • Other kidney problems;
  • Heart dysfunction and cardiovascular disease;
  • Vitamin B1 deficiency;
  • Excess silicon;
  • Pregnancy.

Horsetail is not forbidden to use during pregnancy, and especially safe as a hair rinse applied externally. However, it should only be used for up to 3 weeks due to the fact that it can lead to vitamin B1 deficiency, and it is best to consult your doctor of pregnancy each time you use herbs.

Breastfeeding

As in the case of pregnancy, horsetail is not forbidden during breastfeeding, but its use should be consulted with the attending physician in both cases.
