Dandelion Root (Lat. Taraxacum Officinale) has many medicinal properties, thanks to which it has been used in natural medicine. The dandelion has, among others Antidiabetic and potential anti-cancer properties, it also supports the work of the liver.
Dandelion is a term for plants of the genus dandelion, being a collective name for small species or referring to a single species found in a small area in Scandinavia and Europe. Over 200 species have been recorded in Poland. They grow in ruderal habitats, in meadows, in bright forests and grasslands. Dandelion plants are used as edible, medicinal and fodder plants, while in crops they are considered weeds. The dandelion is characterized by the intense yellow color of its flowers, and when it is picked, a characteristic white juice flows from its broken stem, which stains fingers and clothes. It is common and has a very high pro-health potential.
The chemical composition of individual parts of the plant varies, but all of them are linked by the presence of active substances called terpenes. Dandelion root is particularly rich in tannins as well as inulin, phytosterols and phenolic acids. In turn, the leaves and flowers are rich in flavonoids, phenolic acids and carotenoids, as well as mineral salts, vitamin C and B vitamins, and essential oil.
Brew in two ways:
First way:
Pour 2 teaspoons of dried root with a cup of boiling water and let it brew for 15 minutes
Second way:
Boil 250 ml of water, then reduce the heat and add 2 tablespoons of cleaned and chopped fresh root. Cover and bring to the boil, remove from heat and add 2 tablespoons of chopped freshly harvested leaves. Brew for about 40 minutes and drain.
The brew prepared in this way can be drunk in the amount of two glasses a day.
Decoction
Pour 1-2 tablespoons of dried and shredded roots with a cup of hot water and keep on low heat, covered for 5-10 minutes. Set aside for 15 minutes. Drain. Drink 2-3 times a day for half a cup before eating as a diuretic and detoxifier in urolithiasis, kidney failure and cystitis.
Tinctures
Pour 50 g of crushed dry dandelion roots with 1 bottle (about 750 ml) of white grape wine. Leave in a dark place for 2 weeks, shaking daily. Strain through a sieve or filter paper.
Drink a small glass of 25 ml, 2-3 times a day after eating as a detoxifier and aid in digestion in indigestion and liver ailments, as an aid in obesity, rheumatism and some skin diseases. In addition, in urolithiasis, oliguria and atherosclerosis.
