Senna leaves, flowers, and fruits of the senna plant have been used in tea as a laxative or stimulant for centuries. The fruits of the Senna plant are also used in some teas to help relieve constipation or promote weight loss.
It is used to treat constipation and also to clear the bowel before diagnostic tests such as colonoscopy. Senna is also used for irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), hemorrhoids, and weight loss.
Senna Tea:
Pour hot (not boiling) water over 1-2 teaspoon of Senna pods. Allow the tea to steep for 10 minutes and then strain.
Senna tea starts to work within 1-3 hours of ingesting. It isn't recommended for anyone on a regular basis, for a one time use it can be used for a laxative when constipated.
