Yellow Dock (lat. Rumex crispus L.) is a close relative of sorrel - an ingredient in soups and cold soups. However, it has no culinary use, but medicinal use. It contains tannins and iron, thanks to which it prevents diarrhea, inflammation and anemia. It also works very well on the skin.
Decoction for vomiting, diarrhea, gastrointestinal infections, indigestion:
Use 1 tablespoon of dried root and 1 cup of water. The mixture should be boiled for at least 5 minutes, and then set aside for about half an hour, covered. The resulting decoction should be consumed twice a day, in an amount of about 100ml for a period of 3 weeks. Then take a break. Such broth can be consumed quarterly. You can also prepare the drink from seeds, just like with the root. However, it is slightly milder. The seeds should be harvested in the fall when their color is darker.
The effects of using the cobylak depend largely on the dose. Due to the high content of oxalates, it can cause the formation of kidney stones. Therefore, people with kidney disease should avoid it. The root is also not recommended for pregnant and lactating women as it may contribute to cramps.
The yellow dock is not forbidden for children. However, be careful with this plant. While decoctions are prepared for adults, for children an infusion of milder-acting seeds is enough.
Should be not used in pregnant or breastfeeding women.
